Origin by Ocean is a Finnish biotechnology company developing a proprietary biorefinery platform to convert invasive algae into high-value bio-based ingredients. Our products, including fucoidan and alginate, serve global markets across personal care, nutraceuticals, food, and materials.

We are currently scaling from pilot operations to our first commercial biorefinery, building the foundation for large-scale production and international growth.

The Role

We are looking for a Mid-to-Senior Chemical Engineer to help bring our technology from demonstration to full commercial reality.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role at the intersection of scale-up, engineering execution, and production. You will play a key part in translating our biorefinery process into robust, industrial-scale operations, working closely with engineering partners and internal teams.

Based at our Espoo headquarters, you’ll be at the heart of building something first-of-its-kind.

Key Responsibilities

Scale-Up & EPCM

• Lead scale-up activities from pilot and demonstration to commercial production
• Manage EPCM phases in collaboration with external engineering partners
• Design, specify, and commission process equipment and pilot facilities
• Identify and resolve process bottlenecks, driving continuous optimisation
• Support and mentor junior engineers during critical project phases
• Drive commercialization from a production and process perspective

Operations, Quality & Compliance

• Plan and execute demo production runs to meet timelines and volume targets
• Ensure compliance with food- and cosmetic-grade standards and certifications
• Develop SOPs, risk assessments, and technical documentation
• Maintain strong safety practices across all operations
