Origin by Ocean is a Finnish biotechnology company developing a proprietary biorefinery platform to convert invasive algae into high-value bio-based ingredients. Our products, including fucoidan and alginate, serve global markets across personal care, nutraceuticals, food, and materials.

We are currently scaling from pilot operations to our first commercial biorefinery, building the foundation for large-scale production and international growth.

The Role

We are launching a new industrial revolution within the chemical industry value chain. To drive this transformation, we are seeking a visionary Senior Investment Director to take full ownership of our First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) investment EPCM projects.

This is not a traditional corporate role. You will build entirely an entirely new industrial facility from the ground up. You will navigate the high-stakes complexity of FOAK scaling. The more seasoned experience you bring, the more successful you will be in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Direct FOAK Investments: Oversee capital allocation, risk profiling, and commercial structuring for pioneer chemical EPCM projects.
Lead EPCM Execution: Drive the project lifecycle from engineering through procurement, construction, commissioning and operational handover.
Champion Commercial Strategy: Protect project margins, optimize supply chain structures, and maximize ROI on proven technology scaling.
Build Culture: Foster a fierce "one team spirit" culture across engineering , commercial, finance, and operational teams.
Lead Through Complexity: Serve as the ultimate anchor when projects face unexpected challenges, creating structure where needed, turning bottlenecks into commercial wins.

Required Experience

Senior Expertise: Extensive, proven track record in high-level investment or project management. More experience makes you more suitable.

EPCM Leadership: Direct, hands-on experience leading large-scale EPCM projects is a non-negotiable requirement.

Chemical Industry Context: Deep understanding of the chemical industry value chain, processing plants, or heavy industrial scaling.

Commercial Mastery: A razor-sharp commercial mindset with experience managing complex project budgets and investment frameworks.
