Hartwall and Origin by Ocean have started a collaboration: the companies are exploring how Baltic Sea algae can be processed into future raw materials for beverage production. The aim of the collaboration is to turn a challenge into an opportunity - to combat eutrophication of the Baltic Sea by using algae in food production.
Hartwall Product Development and Origin by Ocean are working together to explore the possibilities of processing algae into raw materials for beverage production. Origin by Ocean focuses on algae processing technology, with specialised products that bring new opportunities for nature-based products.

- As a company and a brand, Hartwall represents the absolute best in the country. The cooperation is a great example of how to create new and exciting opportunities for collaboration between a start-up company and a traditional and strong brewing company. This collaboration reinforces our belief that Origin by Ocean's products will create future opportunities in many grocery sectors and meet the growing need for consumers to make sustainable purchasing decisions. The Hartwall collaboration is another good example of this," says Mikael Westerlund, Chief Business Activist and founding member of Origin by Ocean.

- This is an exciting opening for us. We are exploring how, together with Origin by Ocean, we can make a positive impact on the environment in the future while bringing new products to consumers. We are impressed by Origin by Ocean's offering and bold approach. It would be great if product development could contribute to the eutrophication problem in the Baltic Sea," says Kalle Järvinen, CEO of Hartwall.

The companies are strong believers in the growing future of bio-based products.

- Similar values, sustainable development and future goals create a strong basis for this cooperation. The food market is in upheaval and raw material innovations can respond to this need for change," Westerlund adds.
