Press release

Origin by Ocean’s OCEANBOOST™ LF has been named Sustainable Ingredient of the Year at the European Natural Beauty Awards 2026 in Paris, marking the second consecutive year an ingredient from Origin by Ocean’s blue biorefinery platform has been recognised by the awards.

On September 29, the European natural beauty industry gathered in Paris for the European Natural Beauty Awards 2026. Among the natural raw materials recognised this year, OCEANBOOST™ LF was awarded Sustainable Ingredient of the Year 2026.

For Origin by Ocean, the award adds another independent proof point for an approach we have been building deliberately: transforming invasive marine biomass into high-performance ingredients that can compete on what matters to customers: functionality, efficacy and sustainability.

Performance and sustainability belong in the same ingredient

OCEANBOOST™ LF is a high-purity fucoidan bioactive produced from invasive Sargassum and developed for topical cosmetic applications.

Its development has been driven by a straightforward principle: sustainability cannot be the reason customers are expected to compromise on ingredient performance.

OCEANBOOST™ LF has been built around both.

Our testing programme has generated evidence across skin resilience, firmness, elasticity and smoothness, alongside work exploring mechanisms relevant to skin longevity. At the same time, its raw material comes from invasive Sargassum, a rapidly growing environmental challenge in the Caribbean.

This combination of performance and environmental value is increasingly important as beauty companies look beyond sustainability commitments towards ingredients that can deliver within real formulations, claims strategies and commercial products.

One award is recognition. Two tell us something about the platform.

This is the second consecutive year that an Origin by Ocean ingredient has been recognised by the European Natural Beauty Awards.

  • In 2025, OCEANTHIX™ LV, our alginate biopolymer, was named Innovative Natural Raw Ingredient of the Year.

  • In 2026, OCEANBOOST™ LF, our fucoidan bioactive, has been named Sustainable Ingredient of the Year.

They are different molecules solving different formulation needs. Both originate from the same blue biorefinery platform.

That distinction matters.

Origin by Ocean is not developing a single hero ingredient. We are building the capability to take an underutilised and problematic marine biomass and fractionate it into multiple high-value ingredients, each with its own functionality, applications and commercial markets.

Recognition of two different products in two consecutive years provides external validation not only for the ingredients themselves, but for the broader potential of our platform.

Building the next generation of ingredient value chains

The beauty industry is asking increasingly sophisticated questions of its raw materials.

Where do they come from? What do they do? Can their performance be demonstrated? Can they work in existing formulations? Can they be produced at industrial scale? And can their environmental value be supported by evidence rather than simply a better story?

These are the questions Origin by Ocean has been building towards from the beginning.

Our work now spans ingredient science, application development, clinical and preclinical validation, regulatory pathways and the industrial scale-up of our blue biorefinery technology.

Each piece matters because the opportunity is bigger than replacing one cosmetic ingredient.

It is about demonstrating that marine biomass can become the foundation for a new industrial raw-material platform, capable of supplying high-performance ingredients at commercial scale.

Recognition at a moment that matters

Accepting the award in Paris, Origin by Ocean's Application Development Activist Marc Desmarais reflected on the wider context:

“In this era and moment when sustainability isn’t necessarily super trendy, and is not necessarily the easiest route, this means a lot for the hard work that we are doing.”

That work does not change direction with the conversation around sustainability.

The commercial case for better raw materials has to stand on performance, science and economics as well as environmental impact.

OCEANTHIX™ in 2025. OCEANBOOST™ LF in 2026.

Two independent recognitions are a meaningful signal that the ingredients emerging from our blue biorefinery platform are beginning to do exactly that.

And we are only getting started.
